I tend to not give too much credit to talks that say "I got this grant, this is how I did it", because they are often not generalizable.

On the contrary, David brought a broad perspective by analyzing many applications, both successful and failed, so he could actually prove what works and what doesn't.

In very little time, he clearly presented the main issues that determine whether a project has a chance of being funded, such as a vague title or project goals.
